Finding a Good Driving Instructor
A good driving Instructor will adapt his teaching method to suit the pupil who is learning to drive. The level of driving instruction will be appropriate to that of the needs of the learner driver.
A Qualified ADI should have a car which is in good working order and is reasonably up to date to carry out driving lessons in. The pupil receiving the driver training should feel comfortable with the controls of the instructor's car.
Your driving instructor should display his Driving Instructor License on the window of the vehicle. A pink license is a Trainee Driving Instructor and a green license is a Qualified Driving Instructor both are registered with the Driving Standards Agency.
DSA is responsible for maintaining and checking the standards of all Approved Driving Instructors, who to qualify must:
- have held a full driving license for at least four years.
- pass a much tougher driving theory test than the one you will take.
- pass a strict practical driving test.
- reach and keep up a high standard of instruction. The standard of driver tuition given by the ADI is regularly checked by a supervising examiner from the DSA.
- be registered with the DSA.
- display an ADI identification certificate on the windscreen of the tuition vehicle.
You should take advice from your driving instructor on all aspects of driving, what books to read, how to practice and when to take your driving test.
Most of all the driving instructors you choose, should be punctual, have a good reputation and a car that suits you. Recommendations from friends are always a good place to start.
